A smart (intelligent) PDU is a rack power distribution unit with built-in monitoring and network connectivity, allowing administrators to remotely measure current, voltage, power and energy consumption at the unit or outlet level, and in switched models, remotely turn outlets on or off.
Metered PDU vs switched PDU — what's the difference?
A metered PDU reports power usage locally or remotely but cannot control outlets. A switched PDU includes everything a metered PDU offers plus remote, individually addressable outlet control, useful for remote reboot of hung equipment and sequenced power-up.
